Wanting To Add Some Sparkle To Your 4th Layout? Try This…

Updated: Aug 16

Hey there, crafty friends!

Want to jazz up your scrapbook pages with a little extra pizzazz? Why not give heat embossing a go on your embellishments?

In my latest project, a 4th of July-themed layout, I wanted to capture the excitement of fireworks lighting up the night sky. While regular stamping didn't give me the dazzling effect I was after, heat embossing was the perfect solution!

I love how it brought the bling I was looking for without overpowering the page!

So let me take you behind the scenes on how this 4th of July layout and embossing idea came about!

On May 1st, 2024, I became a Stampin’ Up!®️ Demonstrator! (Yippieee!! I’m so excited)! With my new journey, I decided that I wanted lots of new things! I mean you wouldn’t want to start a new school year with old pencils? Right? 😂😂.

One of the new things I had ordered was the “Light The Sky” stamp and thin cuts. I initially planned to feature it in a scrapbook layout capturing the Disneyland Fireworks Display. However, I altered my course when I stumbled upon a rustic blue piece of paper from the captivating "Country Woods" paper collection. In an instant, the paper sparked visions of fireworks illuminating the night sky, interwoven with classic symbols of stars and stripes.

The unexpected encounter with the rustic blue paper fueled my imagination and prompted me to seek a complementary element to infuse bursts of color into the envisioned layout. With the desire for a rustic charm that harmonized with the theme, I embarked on a quest for the perfect red stripe accent. My quest led me to the CTMH "Go Super Hero" collection.

After choosing my papers, I remembered that I had recently purchased “Star Sketches 507 508 from Allison Davis. I flipped through all of them and found one that was exactly what I had in mind for this layout! I love it when that happens! “The stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ perfectly aligned” we could say! 😂😂

I softly splattered two 12x12 white cardstock pieces with a CTMH sapphire shimmer brush.

I then used the "Country Woods" paper to create a large star shape. Since the red-striped paper had black stripes, I decided to layer the blue star on black.

I added faux stitching around the star with a white gel pen and distressed the edges for a rustic look.

Using my Cricut®️, I cut multiple smaller stars from the patterned papers and slightly larger stars in blue, gray, and black as mats. I added stitching details and distressed the edges of these stars too for texture.

Before adhering to the page, I layered my photos with black and white cardstock. Then, I created a wave design by arranging the stars across the entire layout. I discovered a ready-to-use title in Design Spacethat I simply printed and cut. Elevating the title with foam strips, I carefully positioned the embossed fireworks and placed them directly on top.

I arranged the remaining heat-embossed elements and embellishments around the large blue star to create a cohesive look. Rather than adding another photo, I utilized the mat I had prepared for journaling. I incorporated black ink lines and crafted a subtitle that humorously reads "Cheesy Fireworks," a fond nickname given by my little man for the budget-friendly fireworks! 😂😂😂
