Stocking Base:

Since all my pull-top stockings follow the same construction method, I’m skipping the assembly tutorial here. But if you need it, check out my Pull-Top Stocking Gift Card Holder Tutorial for all the step-by-step goodness!
Once the basic structure was done, it was time for the details—and this is where things took a turn for the ridiculous.
Step 1: Designing the Front and Back with SVG Files 🎮🎄
The first step was finding the perfect SVG files. I wanted at least two—one for the front and one for the back. As luck would have it, I saw two designs with similar colors and a festive Christmas vibe. It was a match made in crafting heaven!
Using a SonicSVG from Pixwave for the Front of the stocking & a Sonic SVG Designed by BSHOP1Art for the back, in Cricut Design Space®️, I adjusted the sizing, layered the elements, and experimented with different placements until I had a balanced and cohesive design. Seeing it come together digitally made the creative process so much smoother.
Step 2: Building the Stocking Base and Adding Stripes 🧦✨
This is where my son’s tube socks became the unexpected MVP of this project! After pulling a fresh load of laundry from the dryer, I spotted the cool striped detail on his socks and thought, “Why not use that as inspiration?”
To recreate the look, I cut strips of Pool Party cardstock and adhered them horizontally to the stocking base, giving it that iconic striped design.
For the stocking’s main body, I chose CTMH Bluebird cardstock, adding a bold cuff in Stampin’ Up! Real Red cardstock. To keep everything cohesive, I also planned to use Real Red for the toe and heel—tying the whole design together perfectly!
Step 3: Creating the Focal Point with Deckled Circle Dies 🎯✨
Next, I reached for my trusty Stampin’ Up! Deckled Circle Dies to create the perfect centerpiece for the stocking. Drawing inspiration from my Tokyo Ghoul project, I decided to flip my usual color scheme. Instead of a White Willow center, I used Pool Party for the inner layer and White Willow for the outer matting. This small change made the design pop beautifully!
To add depth and dimension, I used a sponge dauber with a Pool Party Classic Stampin’ Pad to ink the edges of the circles. The soft shading gave them a more polished look. Finally, I layered the Sonic SVG on top, bringing the whole design together!
Step 4: Adding the Toe, Heel, and Holly Leaves 🎨🌿
To create a visual triangle of color, I cut the toe and heel from Real Red cardstock. (The triangle will be complete once the cuff topper is in place.) This balanced the design while making the red accents pop!
For extra detail, I added faux stitching using my white gel pen. This little touch brought a whimsical, hand-sewn feel to the stocking.
To finish it off, I tucked a few Garden Green holly leaves (leftover from a previous project) under the Deckled Circle focal point, adding just the right amount of festive contrast!
Step 5: Finishing Touches – Because Every Stocking Needs Some Sparkle!
With all the major pieces in place, it was time for the finishing touches—the little details that make this stocking truly special!
✨ Snowflakes, candy canes, and gifts brought the perfect festive flair, tying the whole design together.
✔ Shimmer Brush Accents – I brushed a light shimmer onto the white areas of Sonic’s design, creating a subtle, snowy effect! ❄️
✔ Mini Embellishments – A few extra stars and tiny snowflakes added just the right amount of festive magic!
And just like that—this stocking is READY to roll! 🏁💨
