From wonky tags to wild stamping—this layout has all the charm of a perfectly imperfect crafting adventure!

Ah, the “newbie” phase of scrapbooking—where enthusiasm meets a wild lack of know-how! If you’ve ever looked back at one of your first scrapbook pages and thought, “What in the Mod Podge was I thinking?”—congratulations, you’re officially one of us!

Back when Design Space® felt like a cryptic puzzle, and blending brushes seemed like magic wands that only crafting wizards could master, I was just figuring things out. Let’s not even talk about my first attempt at photo clusters… let’s just call it “abstract.”

But you know what? Those early layouts, full of heart and a whole lot of trial and error, are exactly what make this craft so special. Today, we’re taking a trip down memory lane with my “Carving Memories” scrapbook layout—inspired by a fall day filled with pumpkin carving, laughter, and a few creative layout choices that almost went as planned.

Buckle up, crafty friends, because this blog is going full-throttle FALL VIBES! 🍂🔥

🍂 Materials Used: Cozy Textures & Autumn Hues!

✔ CTMH ‘Cozy Up’ Collection – Featuring gorgeous hues like Honey Butter, Pumpkin, Sage, and Mocha—because fall deserves ALL the warm, cozy vibes.

✔ Mix-In Paper Pack – The perfect pairing for that extra pop of autumn magic!

✔ CTMH Black & French Vanilla Cardstock – Double-matted photo perfection.

✔ Pumpkin Ink + Blending Brush – For those soft, warm edges that make everything feel extra fall-tastic!

✔ Foam Tape – Because dimension makes everything better.

✔ Cricut® Machine – For cutting out precise titles (and saving my sanity).

✔ CTMH Stamp: Setting the Scene D2182 – To add that extra touch of depth and texture.

🎨 Crafting the Layout: Scrapbooking Fails & Crafting Mishaps!

🚀 1. Designing the LayoutA Humble Beginning

Design Space® was supposed to be my guiding light… instead, it felt like I was trying to decode an ancient manuscript with no Rosetta Stone in sight! My patchwork pumpkin? Let’s just say it was giving “abstract art” more than “precision cutting,” but hey—perfection is overrated!

A lesson in creative cropping… or proof that my paper trimmer has a mind of its own?

📸 2. Photo Arrangement – Double-Matted & Full of Personality!

Double-matting my pumpkin carving photos on black cardstock made them pop!

But the real pop? The half-cropped surprise photo was taken by my little man himself.

Let’s just say his photography skills are still in their creative phase, and that’s exactly why I love it!

🖌️ 3. Adding Color & Texture Blending Brush Betrayal!

Ohhhh, blending brushes… those sneaky little devils! I had no idea I needed to dab it on scratch paper first. Instead, my pumpkin got a bonus feature—a dramatic orange ink spill that made it look like it was LEAKING from the inside! 🤦‍♀️ Spoiler: blending takes practice.

🍂 4. Creating a Cluster… Or a Leaf Pile?

Autumn-themed card with colorful leaves, an acorn, and geometric patterns. Background features a burlap texture and dried leaves.
This was supposed to be a carefully arranged embellishment cluster… but the wind had other plans!” 🍂😂

🍂 4. Creating a Cluster… Or a Leaf Pile?

This was supposed to be a beautiful, balanced embellishment cluster. Instead? It turned into a pile of raked leaves that the wind promptly scattered! 😂

🖊️ 5. Stamping the Background – Who Needs Consistency?!

First time stamping a background… how hard could it be? Cue laughter. I proudly lifted my paper, only to hear the peanut gallery (a.k.a. my kid) say, “Umm… you missed some spots.”

📏 6. Tag Placement – Where’s My Level?!

So, apparently, I need glasses. 🤓 My perfectly aligned tags? Crooked. Every. Single. One. But hey, it adds character… right?

🔺 7. The Great Triangle vs. Square Debate!

“You need to create a visual triangle with your elements!” they said.

Except… my brain heard square. 😬 Oops.

😂 Crafting Chaos: Mishaps That Made This Layout Special!

Background stamping: Where ‘even spacing’ is more of a suggestion than a rule!

🔥 Blending Brush Disaster

My pumpkin looked like it had a plumbing issue thanks to my enthusiastic first attempt at blending.

🔥 Photo Crop Catastrophe

My son’s first attempt at photography left us with some questionable framing choices.

🔥 Stamping Shenanigans

Background stamping is a real skill, people! Mine looked more like connect-the-dots gone rogue.

Precision? We don’t know her. These tags are as straight as my self-control in a craft store!

🔥 Cluster Confusion

What started as an embellishment cluster turned into an autumn leaf pile explosion!

🔥 Crooked Tags = New Trend?

Let’s just say my “straight lines” are a little more… interpretive!

🔥 Triangles? Squares? Help. –

My visual triangle looked more like a confused rectangle. But you know what? It WORKS!

At the end of the day, this layout tells the story of a fun, messy, totally imperfect pumpkin carving day—just the way I like it! 🎃✨

I’ve (thankfully) improved a little since this one… 😂

Let’s just say my early scrapbooking days were a wild ride of trial and error! But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? If you want to see how my layouts have evolved (with fewer blending brush betrayals and slightly straighter photo mats), check out these scrapbook pages:

🍂 Final Thoughts: Scrapbooking is a Wild Ride—Enjoy It!

Did this layout turn out like I imagined? Not even close.
