Scrapbooking Disneyland's Carnation Cafe: A Magical Dining Experience

Updated: Aug 16

Disneyland is a treasure trove of memories, and the Carnation Cafe is one of its hidden gems that brings a delightful culinary experience to life. Nestled on Main Street, U.S.A., this charming eatery has been serving guests since 1955, making it a significant part of Disneyland's rich history. Today, I'll share how I immortalized our visit to this iconic cafe in a scrapbook layout, showcasing the joy and excitement of our dining adventure.

History of Carnation Cafe:

The Carnation Cafe has been a staple at Disneyland since its opening day. Originally an ice cream parlor, it transformed into a full-service restaurant, offering guests a variety of delicious comfort foods. Its menu reflects Walt Disney’s love for hearty, homestyle dishes, making it a must-visit for fans and foodies alike. The cafe’s enduring charm and delectable offerings make it a beloved spot for both nostalgia and new memories.

Scrapbook Layout Details:

In this layout, I focused on capturing the fun and whimsy of our time at the Carnation Cafe, highlighting a sweet moment with my goofy little man who, in his thirst, ordered two sodas and was overjoyed with his choice. His happy expressions in the photos are priceless!

Main Background Page:

The base page of this layout is an actual menu from the Carnation Cafe. Incorporating real memorabilia adds a tangible connection to the memories. I carefully cut out key phrases like "Walt's Favorites" and placed them strategically across the page to enhance the theme.

Double Matted Background and Photos:

To give the photos a prominent place on the layout, I used a double matting technique. The black and white layers add depth and focus, making the photos stand out against the vibrant background.

Assorted Paper Strips:

I added strips of three different assorted patterned papers to bring in more color and a sense of fun. These strips are edged with black ink and complement the playful atmosphere of Disneyland and highlight the joyful experience.

Disney Characters and Icons:

Using my Cricut and Design Space, I cut out adorable images of Mickey, Minnie, and various food items. The serving trays are creatively repurposed hockey puck SVGs, adding a quirky touch to the layout.

Carnation Sign:

The Carnation Cafe sign featured in the layout is a custom design based on the actual sign from the restaurant's facade. This personalized element ties everything together, making the layout a true tribute to our visit.

Documenting Every Moment:

This layout is a perfect example of how you can document every aspect of your Disneyland trip, not just the rides and character encounters. Restaurants, food, and the little moments in between rides are just as memorable and deserve a spot in your scrapbook. Capturing these details ensures that the magic of your trip is preserved in its entirety.

Now I’m curious, how many of you have eaten at the “Carnation Cafe”? If you have, share your creations in our Members Gallery!
