Monsters Inc. Double-Page 12x12 Scrapbook Layout | Disneyland’s “Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!” with CTMH’s Soda Pop Paper Pack

Updated: 2 days ago

Hello, creative friends! 🌟

I’m thrilled to share my latest scrapbooking adventure! Using the CTMH Soda Pop Paper Pack, I crafted a 12x12 double-page layout that captures the magical moments from our ride on “Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!” at Disneyland California Adventure. With its playful color palette and whimsical vibe, this layout is perfect for Disney fans and scrapbookers looking for fresh inspiration.

The Inspiration Behind the Layout

The colors and energy of the Soda Pop collection brought Mike and Sulley’s world to life. To highlight Sulley’s purple fur, I added CTMH Wisteria and Royal cardstock, creating an eye-catching pop of color. My layout was inspired by the iconic door conveyor scene, with doors in various colors arranged “crookedly” to create a sense of movement.

Materials Needed:

Stampin’ Up! Cardstock Crossover Colors:

Stampin’ Up! Is in the process of restructuring its scrapbooking. Until this has been finalized, 12x12 cardstock is sold in kits with other colors. So to purchase 12x12 papers you would have to purchase the following:

Crafting the Layout: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Creating the Doors for the Background

To capture the movement of the doors, I cut several in various colors, placing them slightly tilted across the top of the layout. This playful arrangement mimics the animated energy of the conveyor scene in Monsters Inc.

2. Patterned Paper

I used two pieces of patterned paper for this layout.

The first is the main background piece that will add a majority of the color to the page and be a backdrop for my three main photos.

The second piece is an accent color/pattern that will be the backdrop for my smaller photos and journaling.

3. Adding Character SVGs and Circles

Instead of placing character SVGs directly on the paper, I cut out two circles in different colors of cardstock. I then added a white circle to the center. This design choice helped emphasize each character and created a clean focal point for the page.

In this circle, I also added the title I had cut using my Cricut®️. The tiles are lyrics from the movie's theme song “If I Didn’t Have You” sung by Billy Crystal and John Goodman. The song was written by Randy Newman. If I Didn't Have You lyrics © Walt Disney Music Company.

4. The Embellishments

For the adorable Monster Inc. characters, I used SVG files, printing them slightly lighter so I could use markers to adjust the colors and add depth and dimension. This technique brought the characters to life on the page. You can grab these SVG files by clicking here.

5. Framing with Zip Strips and “Breaking News” Theme

I framed the layout with zip strips from the Soda Pop paper pack, placing “Breaking News” alerts at the bottom to playfully reference the movie’s “human alert” theme. The Stampin’ Up! “Tune In” Stamp and Die Set added a news broadcast element, tying in with the zip strips and adding a fun twist to the design.

The zip strip reminded me of the banner that runs across your TV when there is “Breaking News”.

6. Adding a Fun Twist with Stampin’ Up!:

Continuing with the “Braking News Human” alert, I used the Stampin’ Up! Stamp and Die Set “Tune In” to create a TV broadcast about a human in the city. This added a playful touch to the overall design.

7 Photo Mat Sizes and Layout

This double-page layout includes five photos in various sizes:

Three center photos: 3x3 inches with double mats (white: 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 and colored: 3 1/2 x 4 1/2)

Top right and left photos: 3x3 inches with double mats (white: 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 and colored: 3 1/2 x 3 1/2)

Journaling space: White mat 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 and colored mat 3 1/2 x 2 1/2

8. Adding Shimmer and Final Touches

To add a bit of sparkle, I used a CTMH Wisteria Shimmer Brush. The shimmer added depth, complementing the color palette and giving the layout a magical touch. Looking back, I’d recommend applying the shimmer before adding elements to create a layered effect.
