Monsters Inc. Layout for Disneyland’s “Mike and Sully to the Rescue!” Ride Using CTMH “Soda Pop”!

Updated: Aug 16

Hello, creative friends! 🌟

I am beyond excited to share my latest scrapbooking adventure with you all!!

Using the CTMH Soda Pop Paper Pack, I crafted a layout that perfectly captures our magical moments on the “Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!” ride at Disneyland California Adventure.

The colors in this collection are perfect for bringing the playful spirit of Mike and Sully to life. I couldn’t resist adding some CTMH Wisteria and Royal cardstock to highlight Sully’s iconic purple fur and add a delightful “pop” of color to the overall layout!

Materials Needed:

Stampin’ Up! Cardstock Crossover Colors:

Stampin’ Up! Is in the process of restructuring its scrapbooking. Until this has been finalized, 12x12 cardstock is sold in kits with other colors. So to purchase 12x12 papers you would have to purchase the following:

Crafting the Magic:

The Inspiration

One of my favorite parts of the movie is the iconic scene with all the doors moving along the conveyor. I wanted to capture that scene in my layout.

To do this, I cut several doors in different colors and arranged them “crookedly” at the top of the layout. Having them crooked would give movement to the page and make them appear as if they were “swaying” on the conveyor belt.

Patterned Paper

I used two pieces of patterned paper for this layout.

The first is the main background piece that will add a majority of the color to the page and be a backdrop for my three main photos.

The second piece is an accent color/pattern that will be the backdrop for my smaller photos and journaling. This piece measures 4x10.

The Circles:

Instead of placing the SVGs directly on the paper, I cut out three circles, with the center circle being white. I believed placing the SVGs on a white background would make them stand out more. If they were left on a colored background, they would blend in.

On this circle, I also added the title I had cut using my Cricut®️. The tiles are lyrics from the movie's theme song “If I Didn’t Have You” sung by Billy Crystal and John Goodman. The song was written by Randy Newman. If I Didn't Have You lyrics © Walt Disney Music Company.

The Embellishments

For the adorable Monster Inc. characters, I used SVG files, printing them slightly lighter so I could use markers to adjust the colors and add depth and dimension. This technique brought the characters to life on the page. You can grab these SVG files by clicking here.

To frame the layout, I used zip strips from the “Soda Pop” paper pack at the top and bottom of my layout.

Since the movie revolves around a “human child” in the city of Monstropolis, I lined the bottom zip strip with the word “human.”

The zip strip reminded me of the banner that runs across your TV when there is “Breaking News”.

Adding a Fun Twist with Stampin’ Up!:

Continuing the “Braking News Human” alert, I used the Stampin’ Up! Stamp and Die Set “Tune In” to create a TV broadcast about a human in the city. This added a playful touch to the overall design.

Instead of using three smaller photos on the right side of the layout, I opted for two larger ones, leaving a small space in the bottom right-hand corner for journaling.

Photo & Photo Mat Sizes:

I used Royal, Limeade, and White Daisy Cardstock for the double photo mats.

The three photos in the middle of the page are 3x3 with a white mat of 3 1/4 x 4 1/4. The colored card stock mat measures 3 1/2 x 4 1/2.

From top to bottom, the two top photos measure 3 x 3 with a white mat of 3 1/4 x 3 1/4. The colored card stock mat measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/2.

For the journaling space, the white mat measures 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 and the colored card stock mat measures 3 1/22 by 2 1/2 half.

Adding Sparkle:

To finish the layout, I added some splashes of shimmer using a CTMH “Wisteria” Shimmer Brush. Although the brush was new and didn’t splatter quite the way I wanted, the effect still added a touch of sparkle.

Looking back now, I think I would have started with the shimmer and added multiple corresponding colors all over so that the spatters would be behind the doors as well
