Step-by-Step: How to Create These Lace-Looking Valentine’s Day Cards

Step 1: Create the Card Base

✔ Cut Basic White Thick Cardstock to 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”.

✔ Score at 4-1/4” along the 8-1/2” side and fold to create a standard A2 card base (5-1/2” x 4-1/4”).

💡 Pro Tip: Use a bone folder to get a crisp, professional crease!

🎨 Every masterpiece starts with a solid foundation! Before the lace and shimmer come into play, it’s all about precision-cut layers. A2 card base? This is where the magic begins! ✂️✨

Step 2: Add the First Mat (Colored Cardstock Frame)

✔ Cut your colored cardstock to 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” (same size as the card front).

✔ To reduce bulk while keeping the layered effect, hollow out the center:

• Trim an inner rectangle, leaving about a 1/2” border around the edges.

💡 Pro Tip: This technique not only makes your card lighter but also saves cardstock—perfect for bulk card-making!

Step 3: Prepare the White Card Layer

✔ Cut Basic White Cardstock to 5-1/4” x 4”.

✔ This layer will sit on top of the colored mat, creating a thin border for contrast.

4. Stamp the Lace Design

Lace Stamp in Action! 🎨✨ The Chantilly Lace Stamp adds effortless elegance with just a press of ink! A simple stamp transforms this card into a vintage-inspired masterpiece.

✔ Position Your Stamp – Using the Chantilly Lace Stamp, stamp the lace pattern on opposite corners of the Basic White layer (top left & bottom right).

✔ Choose Your Ink – Select an ink color that complements your cardstock. I used Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler and StazOn Jet Black for bold contrast.

✔ Adhere the Layer – Once stamped, attach this white layer to the colored cardstock mat from Step 2.

💡 Pro Tip: For crisp, even stamping, press firmly and hold for a few seconds before lifting your stamp!

5. Prepare & Assemble the Hearts

💖 Oops, I did it again! I cut WAY too many hearts—but let’s be honest, is there such a thing as too many hearts?! These beauties are prepped, layered, and ready to bring the romance to my lace Valentine’s Day cards. ✂️✨

✔ Cut the Hearts – Use your Cricut® or die-cutting machine to cut hearts in the following sizes:

• Large Heart: 3.75” x 3.36”

• Medium Heart: 1.28” x 1.13”

• Small Heart: 0.73” x 0.65”

• Tiny Heart: 0.49” x 0.43”

✔ Create the Layered Look – For each heart, cut:

• One in Basic White cardstock

• One slightly larger in your colored cardstock (this creates a perfect mat for dimension).

✔ Assemble the Hearts – Adhere each white heart onto its matching colored mat using your preferred adhesive. Let them dry completely before moving to the next step.

💡 Pro Tip: For extra dimension, use foam tape instead of glue when adhering the hearts. This adds a slight lift and makes them pop off the card beautifully!

6. Attach the Large Heart & Stamp the Sentiment

Center Stage! 💖 The largest heart takes the spotlight! Placing it front and center sets the perfect foundation for layering smaller hearts and embellishments.

✔ Position the Large Heart – Place the largest heart in the center of the card, ensuring it is evenly aligned.

✔ Stamp the Sentiment – Using your chosen stamp set, stamp your sentiment directly onto the large heart in a coordinating ink color.

💡 Pro Tip: If using a clear stamp, test your placement on scrap paper first to ensure proper alignment before stamping on your final piece!

7. Add the Smaller Hearts & Lace Details

Timeless in Black & White! 🖤🤍 Chic, classic, and oh-so-romantic—this monochromatic beauty lets the intricate lace details shine!

✔ Stamp Additional Lace Accents – Before attaching the smaller hearts, use the smaller netting stamp from the Chantilly Lace Stamp Set to lightly stamp lace details in the areas where the hearts will overlap. This adds extra texture and depth!

✔ Arrange the Smaller Hearts – Place the medium, small, and tiny hearts around the large heart, ensuring some overlap with both the centerpiece and stamped lace areas for a balanced composition.

✔ Attach the Hearts – Adhere the smaller hearts using foam tape for dimension or liquid glue for a flatter look.

💡 Pro Tip: Slightly tilt or layer some hearts over each other to create a more natural, organic design!

Not Just for Valentine’s Day!
