This layout captures an unforgettable first trip filled with adventure and surprises!

Crafting this layout brought me right back to that magical first trip to Disneyland, our first day at California Adventure, and the moment we ran into Pluto! Walking from Soarin’ to Grizzly River Run, we weren’t expecting to see anyone special, but BAM—there he was, strolling out like he owned the place. Naturally, I made my son run over to him, and I’m so glad I did. This was the first—and only—photo we’ve ever snagged with Pluto.

With so many “firsts” packed into this one moment, I wanted to create a layout that captured the spontaneity and magic of it all. Let’s dive into how this page came together and how I used the elements of that story to inspire my design.

🌟 Bringing the Story to Life in a Disney Adventure Scrapbook

Mapping out the magic! I adapted this Design Space® layout from a previous Soarin’ project to perfectly capture the adventure of the day.

When I started planning this layout, I wanted every element to reflect that day's adventure. I had already created a similar layout for Soarin’, so pulling up my saved design in Design Space® made it easy to adapt to this project.

The globe/map-inspired center represents the journey we were on, while the airplane and clouds tie in the Grizzly Peak Airfield theme. The bold photos framed by stars and arrows help bring focus to that magical character meet-and-greet with Pluto.

💡 Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix and match digital and traditional tools for unique layouts!

🖌️ Step-by-Step: Crafting Disney Adventure Scrapbook Pluto At Grizzly Peak Layout

Once I had everything mapped out in Design Space®, the rest was easy.

1️⃣ Start with the Border

I began with a blue border and cut a 10x10 center out to save the paper for future projects (and to make the page lighter!). I cut White Willow Cardstock to 11-1/2” x 11-1/2” and placed it in the center for a clean, polished look.

2️⃣ Create the Embellishments

Using the Let’s Go Anywhere Digital Art Kit, I printed and cut the embellishments, including the globe. I layered CTMH Sapphire Cardstock over Stampin’ Up! DSP for the globe to give it dimension. The airplane was die-cut from the Adventurous Sky Bundle out of CTMH Shortbread and Scarlet Cardstock.

3️⃣ Bring in the Clouds

These CTMH Fancy Borders Thin Cuts made the perfect fluffy clouds!

I die-cut clouds using CTMH Fancy Borders Thin Cuts and inked the edges with CTMH Periwinkle Ink using a sponge dauber. To add even more depth, I used a blending brush to create soft swirls, giving the clouds a natural, airy feel.

No Fancy Borders Die? No Problem!

If you don’t have the Fancy Borders Thin Cuts, you can still achieve this look! Simply fussy cut your own cloud design across a 12x12 piece of White Willow Cardstock. Freehanding the edges will give your clouds a whimsical, organic feel, making each one uniquely yours!

Pro Tip: Add clear shimmer to the inked edges of the clouds for a subtle sparkle that elevates the design.

4️⃣ Assemble the Background

Sky-high storytelling! The layered clouds frame a cityscape-inspired backdrop, reinforcing the aerial adventure theme and making this layout truly take flight!

To make the clouds stand out, I added a wide strip of DSP across the center of the layout. The contrast made the clouds pop beautifully against the white background. I also chose this paper because, to me, it resembled an aerial view of the buildings below… a perfect way to visually connect the globe and reinforce the theme of flight and adventure in this layout.

5️⃣ Position the Airplane and Globe

Instead of starting with the globe, I first positioned the airplane in the top-left corner. This helped me center the globe perfectly within the remaining space. But it also gave me just the right amount of space to tuck the plane's tail end into the cloud, creating the illusion that it’s soaring through the sky. This little detail adds movement to the layout, making the scene feel even more dynamic, like the adventure is taking off right from the page!

6️⃣ Add the Photos

Center of the adventure! Double-matted photos steal the spotlight, perfectly placed at the heart of the globe to capture this unforgettable Disney moment!

I double-matted my 3x4 photos with White Willow and Scarlet Cardstock. The finished size of each photo is 3-1/2” x4-1/2”, and I placed them staggard at the center of the globe to emphasize the story's heart.

7️⃣ Final Touches

Stars, arrows, and adventure-inspired embellishments tie everything together for a high-flying layout!

I added stars, arrows, and titles, carefully placing them to create a visual triangle that ties the layout together.

Grizzly Peak Airfield is the main title of the page, and I wanted it to pop! To make it stand out, I sized it much larger than the other two locations on the map. For even more dimension, I added foam tape to the back, giving it that extra lift and making it the true focal point of the layout.

💡Pro Tip: If you want a fuller sky effect, extend the clouds up the page for a whimsical touch.

8️⃣ Adding the Journaling

Small space? No problem!
Small space? No problem!

Since this layout didn’t leave much room for journaling, I printed my text on an Avery clear label, giving it a seamless look while keeping the cloud details front and center. Sometimes, the tiniest details make the biggest impact!

💡Pro Tips for Extra Magic

💡*Want a softer look? Add clouds down the page from top to bottom for a dreamy sky effect.

💡*Add shimmer! A little Clear Shimmer Brush on the cloud edges makes them sparkle without overpowering the design.
