Hello, creative friends! I’m excited to share my latest Disney-themed layout, capturing the wild rapids of the Grizzly River Run ride at Disneyland California Adventure.
This 12x12 single-page scrapbook layout, designed with Close to My Heart’s (CTMH) “Lake Life” Collection, brings the thrill and splash of our day to life! Featuring three photos, layered details, and textured accents, this layout offers a visually engaging experience with plenty of room for storytelling using Flip Flaps.
Bringing the Vision to Life with Design Space®️
Design Space®️ was instrumental in bringing my Grizzly River Run layout to life. This powerful design tool allowed me to plan and refine every detail before cutting, from the layered mountain and river elements to the sign and pine tree silhouettes. Using Design Space®️, I could arrange each element digitally, experiment with the layout, and ensure that all pieces fit cohesively. Once satisfied with the digital mockup, I used my Cricut®️ to precisely cut the shapes, creating a seamless and dynamic design that translated perfectly to the physical page.
Materials Used:
• CTMH “Lake Life” Paper Pack and Coordinating Cardstock
• White Daisy Cardstock: Base layer for the layout
• Blending Brush: Used for applying Glacier Ink to create the sky effect
• CTMH Glacier Ink Pad: Sky background
• CTMH Pine Cardstock: Adds depth to the mountain
• CTMH Pine Ink Pad and Sponge Dauber: Enhances the mountain detail
• SVG Files from Design Space®️: Used for elements like the mountain and Grizzly River Run sign
• Scraps in CTMH Glacier, Sage, and Lagoon: For the river water, each inked in corresponding colors
• Foam Strips: To create a 3D effect for water splashes
• Glitter Paste: Adds sparkle to the layered sand for a “wet” look
• Silhouette Pine Trees: Black cardstock to frame the layout and build a visual triangle
• Adhesive, Glue and Paper Trimmer
Creating the Layout Step-by-Step:
1. Starting with the Background:
• Begin with a 12x12 Lake Life Collection paper as the border, layering a piece of White Daisy Cardstock on top for the layout’s base.
• Use a blending brush and Glacier Ink to create a soft sky effect, perfect for replicating Disneyland’s sky on that memorable day.
2. Building the Mountain and River Elements:
• For the mountain, use Pine Cardstock and enhance it with CTMH Pine Ink applied with a sponge dauber in swirling motions. This detail gives the mountain a textured, realistic look.
• Add a cut SVG from Design Space®️, layering it over the mountain to create a focal point with Grizzly Peak.
3. Creating the River and Sandy Shore:
• The river water is crafted from scraps in Glacier, Sage, and Lagoon cardstock, each piece inked to add depth.
• For the sandy shore, layer several pieces with glitter paste, giving them a sparkling, wet appearance that echoes the ride’s splashy feel.
4. The Grizzly River Run Sign:
• Designed based on the ride’s entrance sign, this custom-made element (saved in Design Space®️) adds a personalized touch and adds the title to the layout.
5. Pine Tree Silhouettes:
• To create a cohesive visual triangle and keep the viewer’s eye moving, add silhouettes of pine trees around the right side of the mountain. These shapes ground the layout without detracting from the vibrant photos.
6. Adding Photos and Final Touches:
• Stagger the three photos to create movement, tilting them slightly as if caught mid-splash.
• Add water splash elements with foam strips for a 3D effect, reinforcing the layout’s dynamic feel and drawing attention to the photos.
A Unique Memory:
What makes this layout especially meaningful is that, for the first time, we captured photos of ourselves on the ride rather than just the scenery. Although the photos are a bit blurry due to the bump and splashing, they capture a fun, wild moment that we’ll always remember!
Pro Tip for Scrapbookers: This layout’s design can easily be expanded with Flip Flaps for added journaling space, perfect for including stories, thoughts, or even additional photos without crowding the page.
